Free Ticket to the 2010 Northwest Flower and Garden Show

This giveaway is now closed. Read on in the comments to find out who participated and who won!

If you really want a free ticket to the Northwest Flower and Garden Show but writing a Haiku was too daunting, now’s your chance to try again.

If you want to enter, here’s how it works this time:

  • In the comment area below this post on gardenhelp.org here tell us what’s most appealing to you about the prospect of attending the Northwest Flower & Garden Show.
  • Do not submit a request via email, twitter, gardenhelp forms, on Facebook or other methods; this won’t work and may only make me grumpy. Do feel free to share the contest with others!
  • Entries must be submitted before 5pm PST, Tuesday, January 26, 2010.
  • Be sure to include your name or website or email in case you win!
  • Winning tickets will be left at will-call if other arrangements cannot be made prior to the show.
  • I will perform a completely subjective judgment of the entries, so please strive to be entertaining!
  • I will select and announce a winner by Wednesday, January 27, 2010. So check back!

Oh, and if you don’t win, keep reading Gardenhelp.org! There may be another ticket giveaway contest coming before the garden show!

(Although I am a contributor to and supporter of the Northwest Flower & Garden Show, this contest is not sponsored by anyone. This is an extra ticket of my own that I wish to share with the greater gardening community. This ticket is a stand-alone giveaway. It has no cash value and is accompanied by nothing else. If you don’t live in or near Seattle, don’t expect an airplane ticket or hotel room to come with this ticket. Sorry, I’m not Oprah.)

OK, this is the first year I’m planning on taking Hazel (almost 4 years old) to the show. If we survive the crowds I think she’ll have fun looking at all the big waterfalls and gardens -inside- a big building. Plus the kids area might have some fun stuff to do and look at. She’s very interested in helping me in the garden and I think this year we’ll have her own little plot that she can plant with her favorites, carrots and tomatoes!
With any luck having a kid in tow will keep me from spending too much money on the odds and ends I always seem to find in the merchant booths… Oh wait, there’s free childcare… May just have to leave the VISA at home!

I’m looking forward to going again this year, but because this year it will be my Mom, me and my 11 year old daughter, 3 generations of gardeners enjoying it together. I love getting inspiration from the displays and love finding some new plants to bring home with me. I have memories of previous Northwest Flower and Garden shows growing in my garden.
After last year and the news that we almost wouldn’t have a garden show again, I’m even more excited to be there and show my support.

There was a Haiku contest? I love Haiku. I am hoping to go to the show this year with my daughter. I had the opportunity to attend a few years ago and was awestruck at the beauty and creativity of the exhibits. I am hoping to transform our yard this year into a beautiful garden space. I can’t wait to be inspired to create our garden.

Our family has recently moved to Kitsap County, after living in the Northwest Desert (the Okanogan Valley) for ten years. I have no idea how to convert our acre-and-a-half lawn to a native plant-dominated, kid-and-dog friendly, fruit and vegetable-producing Eden. My neighbors promise me we can do this; but I’m looking forward to attending the Northwest Flower and Garden Show to gather ideas on how to deal with the wet winters, dry summers, and less extreme temperatures. This year I want to learn enough to be able to fill our pantry, freezer, and vases with everything available from this wonderful green area.

Wow – so many wonderful stories about wanting and needing to attend the 2010 Northwest Flower & Garden Show. Honestly, I wanted to give a ticket to each of you. So, since I couldn’t decide, I put your names in a hat and had my husband draw blindly from it.

    Margaret wins!

I hope all of you are able to make it to the show this year. The price of a ticket is definitely worth it!
